Rare ~1962 Alfa Giulietta for sale at auctioneers Bonhams

ItalianCar has recently been briefed by Bonhams Auctioneers on a rare Alfa Romeo for sale in Australia

A rare c1962 Alfa-Romeo Giulietta Sprint Veloce is being offered for sale by auctioneers Bonhams & Goodman. 

‘This is an amazing car,’ says David Bird, Head of Collectors’ Cars at Bonhams & Goodman. ‘It’s a one owner car with incredible provenance.  Alfa-Romeo enthusiasts will be hard pushed to find a car of this calibre in this country again.’ Bird adds.

The Alfa-Romeo Giulietta Sprint was officially announced in 1954 as a ‘practical and easy to use’ small sporting car with the traditional Alfa-Romeo high performance from its 1290cc twin-cam engine. In 1961 the 100,000th example of the Giulietta coupe was produced but the Bertone bodied Spirit was much rarer, only 24,000 being built between 1954 and 1962. One of the most beautiful small cars of all time, this model has remained a true classic.

This remarkable example was purchased by the vendor on his honeymoon and, through a letter of introduction he purchased the car from Minetti in Milan, one of Italy’s major Alfa dealers. The Minetti sticker remains on the back window.

After use in Europe, the vendor took the car back to the USA where he was working at the time and took it off the road in 1964 with the intention of converting it to right-hand-drive, before its eventual return to Australia. This occurred in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the car having been on blocks for some 20 years. Now in near Concours condition, a list of the work done, together with a long list of manuals and spare parts, and a newspaper article on the history of this remarkable car, is available for inspection by prospective purchasers.

For sale by private treaty with an estimate of $35,000 - 45,000.
